2009 Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure

Post date: Jul 10, 2010 9:24:35 PM

This was our second year to participate as a team! We had another award winning team and a wonderful day. Our Sisterhood of Survivors team took first place in two categories & won two beautiful trophies. We won 1st place for the most team members in our category with 92 members & 1st place for the most survivors on our team with 31 survivors. Congratulations and Thank YOU, to all of those that participated and your families & friends.

Survivors were showered with wonderful gifts. We received two T-shirts this year, one pink to wear that day & the white shirt that all members received. There was a separate survivor booth where we received gifts and goodies already bagged for us. For several it was their first time at the event and they were amazed at how many people were there. The vendor booths, my goodness! Oh! The survivor breakfast...I do hope you all were able to attend!.

I will say our “pink beads” were a huge success. So many comments on our beads & how others could get beads too. If you were able to see the article in the Fresno Bee, the picture was of SOS members and all their beads. (Pink beads were given to survivors of the Sisterhood of Survivors team to emphasise survivorship, each strand of beads represented 1 year. And we always say you became a survivor the day you were diagnosed! Martha and Marjorie both had over 30 strands! ) Over 300 strands of beads wer distributed to team survivors and worn the day of the race.

Our team raised approximately $1,800 for this event. There figures I received from the Komen organizers were amazing. There were 6,640 participants; 4,000 of those were all part of teams. The total dollar amounts are not final, but the figures so far equaled $387,000 for the Fresno Run. Pam and Marilyn were amazed at the undertaking it was to orga nize the event and everything that goes into preparation, set-up and clean-up of our team and learned a lot plus made so many new friends and gained so much from being involved. Thank You! Pam Green for being Team Captain and Marilyn Bolin for being the Co-Captain. THEY HAVE ALREADY VOLUNTEERED FOR 2010! But will need help, if you are interested in volunteering let us know.

From Pam and Marilyn, A HUGE & WARM Thank you to all who helped along in this new adventure, we couldn’t have done it without ALL of you.

Please mark your calendars for October 23, 2010.
